New Maternal Health Program Reaches 15 Remote Communities

By Administrator · 09 Apr 2026

RORU's expanded maternal health initiative is now providing antenatal care, safe delivery support, and postnatal follow-up to women in 15 previously underserved communities.

RORU has expanded its maternal health program to reach 15 remote communities across Soroti and Kumi Districts, bringing essential healthcare services to women who previously had to travel over 30 kilometers to access antenatal care.

Program Components

The program takes a comprehensive approach to maternal health, addressing the full continuum of care from pregnancy through the postnatal period:

  • Monthly antenatal clinics at community gathering points
  • Training of traditional birth attendants in safe delivery practices
  • Distribution of mama kits containing essential delivery supplies
  • Postnatal home visits by community health workers
  • Nutrition education for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers

In the first quarter alone, the program has registered 340 pregnant women for antenatal care and facilitated 89 safe deliveries with the support of trained birth attendants.

"Every mother deserves to give birth safely, regardless of where she lives," said RORU's Health Program Manager. "This program is closing the gap in maternal health services for communities that have been left behind."
